The City of Renton is situated near Seattle on the south shore of Lake Washington with spectacular views of the lake, the Olympics, the Cascades, and Mount Rainier. The fourth largest city in King County by population, and the 8th largest city in Washington, Renton is quite literally at the center of an extensive regional and international transportation network. The Cedar River runs through the heart of Downtown Renton and offers an abundance of natural beauty.
The Renton Regional Fire Authority serves approximately 126,560 residents and many visitors within 33.28 square miles. The department’s response area covers the City of Renton, King County Fire District 25, and King County Fire District 40.
The department is fully paid with 142 uniform members and 18 civilian members that provide both emergency and non-emergency services. In 2017, the department responded to over 16,000 calls for service from six fire stations that are strategically located throughout the service area. Services provided by Renton Regional Fire Authority include: fire response, emergency medical, technical rescue, water rescue, and hazardous materials.
In April of 2016, voters approved the creation of Renton Regional Fire Authority, which was formally known as Renton Fire & Emergency Services. With the approval of the Regional Fire Authority, the department is authorized to add 24 additional uniform positions. Additionally, the department will also be adding a seventh fire station which is scheduled to be completed in the beginning of 2019.

The department anticipates hiring for a February 2019 Academy
Renton Regional Fire Authority is establishing an eligibility list and will invite candidates with the highest scores that are received from PST to an oral board interview. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of five" with the top five candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.
Renton Regional Fire Authority anticipates conducting interviews based on the top written scores in November 2018, and will continue to schedule interviews approximately every 6 months.
