Department Information

The Central Washington University (CWU) Police Department provides commissioned law enforcement services on our main campus, located in historic Ellensburg, WA.  CWU is a public, four-year university and has approximately 10,000 students and over 1,000 faculty and staff members.

Our area enjoys four distinct seasons and we experience from snowfall and ice, spring winds and summer heat.  Our surroundings of mountains and rivers offer spectacular views and unlimited outdoor recreation.  Fishing, horseback riding, bird watching, camping, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, boating and biking are just a few of the activities you can enjoy in Kittitas County.  

The campus of CWU offers students, faculty, staff and visitors activities and events such as: museums, dining, sporting and athletic events, music concerts, theater productions, and numerous public programs and presentations.

Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certification Applicant must have successfully completed the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy or be a graduate of a municipal or regional Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy or equivalent, as accepted by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. Graduates from accepted out-of-state academies will be required to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Academy Equivalency Test and become certified as a Washington State police officer.   X
Prior Experience Requirement At least 1 year prior certified law enforcement experience.
Prior campus/university policing experience.
   
Current Hiring Status The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.    
Other Successfully complete a thorough background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations as well as pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Candidates must successfully pass the Physical Fitness and Abilities Test for this agency.

This agency allows out of state testing.

Salary Information

$3627/month with periodic increases up to $4762/month.
