Important Information

Kirkland Fire Department (KFD) is hiring entry level Firefighters.

This is an exciting time to be a Kirkland Firefighter!

Kirkland is continuously accepting applications for the hiring process for Firefighter positions.

The posted testing deadline is not the final day to submit scores, all scores should be submitted prior to this date. The testing deadline is the day that all scores are pulled from PST and used for interview invitations. All candidates should allow ample time for test scores to be uploaded to their profiles prior to the deadline.

The PST written test score is required to be dated between February 1, 2024 and February 2025. All test scores are valid for one calendar year.

Applicants must possess a valid CPAT assessment dated between February 1, 2024 and February 2025. All test scores are valid for one calendar year.

If CPAT is completed through PST, your scores are automatically provided to the Kirkland Fire Department when you apply. If CPAT is completed through another certified provider, upload proof of non-PST CPAT to your personal PST account. Save the file with this naming convention: CPAT-Date of CPAT test-Last Name.

Do not submit CPAT results directly to the Kirkland Fire Department.

The Kirkland Fire Department anticipates the next round of interviews to begin February 2025.

Department Information

Kirkland Fire Department (KFD) has a staff of 122 serving residents over 18 square miles from six fire stations, including our brand new Fire Station 24. New construction of Fire Station 27, as well as renovations at existing stations around the city, are underway to help KFD improve firefighter workplace health and safety, become more energy efficient and stay up-to-date on the latest equipment.

KFD is not just about fighting fires. KFD is an “all hazards” response team that includes handling Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescues, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management and Water Rescues. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) now make up about 75% of KFD’s calls for service.
