The City of Redmond, situated on Lake Sammamish, is a progressive suburban community located just to the east of Lake Washington, within minutes of Seattle. With approximately 57,000 residents and the home of many large corporations, which causes our daytime population to be in excess of 110,000. The City of Redmond currently encompasses approximately 17 square miles and has a balance of residential, commercial and park areas.
The City prides itself for its high quality of life with good schools and healthy economic base. While maintaining a focus on quality living, the City of Redmond has also experienced consistent, exciting growth of both residential area and business entities. Technology is central to the business population as well as both local and chain businesses. Dubbed “The Bicycle Capitol of the Northwest”, Redmond is home to the Velodrome and Redmond Bike Derby, the nation’s oldest bicycle road race. Recreational opportunities are abundant with various outdoor activities, such as skiing, biking, hiking and water sports, all within an hour drive.
The Redmond Police Department is a nationally accredited police agency with 87 sworn personnel and 44 support staff. Our mission statement is "To provide law enforcement services to our community that reflect our core values of Respect, Professionalism, Dedication and Leadership.". This philosophy is an integral part of our employee's work ethic. Our Patrol, Traffic and Investigations Division work a 4/10 schedule. The Patrol Division alternates the work schedule every 6-7 weeks, providing a generous number of weekends off. We offer many specialty assignment positions including SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Recruitment/Hiring, Crime Prevention, Public Information Coordinator, Traffic, K-9, Family Violence, Investigations, Eastside Narcotics Task Force and School Resource Officer. Additionally we have officers certified as instructors in the following areas: Defensive Tactics, EVOC, Less Lethal, OC, Taser, Firearms, Ethics, K-9 and Field Training Officer. Officers are provided annual in-service training as well as external training. Officers are encouraged to apply themselves to specialty assignments and move throughout the department to become a rounded employee.

The City of Redmond offers two different medical plans to choose from. They offer an alternative to social security with the Municipal Employees Benefit Trust (MEBT), which is a 401K plan, with funds contributed by the employee and the City of Redmond. Employees become fully vested in the MEBT plan after 5 years of employment.
