Department Information

The City of Yelm Police Department operates out of a newly built state of the art building knows as the "Public Safety Building". We are situated in beautiful downtown Yelm, WA. We currently operate with 13 full-time Commissioned Officers, 4 Reserve Officers and 2 Office Personnel. Current structure is the Police Chief, (2) Patrol Sergeants, (1) Detective, (1)School Resource Officer and (8) Patrol Officers.

Current Hiring Status

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.

Salary Information

7 Step salary Schedule. 61,356.00 - 73,272.00 for current F.O.P. Ccntract in effect through 2017. Additional 5% for Detective Pay, $75.00 shift differential premium for evening shifts, instructor premium, 3% FTO premium, $300.00 pay per year for fitness incentive and longevity pay after 7 years from 2.0% to 4.0%.

Benefit Information

Medical at 100% for employee and 80% for dependents, 11 paid holidays per year, sick leave accrued at 8 hours per month, Vacation accrual begins at 96 hours per year and tops out at 200 hours per year.
