PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT Applicant must be currently employed as a full-time employee of a corrections facility or have been so employed withing the past two years. Must have satisfactorily completed that agency's required probationary period and must have had two (2) years of full time corrections experience. Applicants must have been working in a job classification that is the same or similar to the position classification to which they are applying. Must have successfully graduated from the Washington State Corrections Academy or its equivalent in another stated and must hold current certification. X

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS THE FOLLOWING ARE AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS - APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT APPLY TO OUR AGENCY IF THEY INDICATE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
Driving
  • 1 or more traffic crime convictions in last 5 years (DWI, Suspended, Reckless, etc).
  • Suspension of driver's license within past 3 years.
  • 5 or more moving violations in past 3 years.
  • 2 or more at-fault accidents in past 2 years.
  • Drug Use
  • Illegal drug substance usage or exposure within past 3 years.
  • Illegal use of illegal drugs in the last 3 years.
  • Illegal use of ANY controlled substance while employed in a criminal justice capacity.
  • Illegal opiate use.
  • Hallucinogen use within past 10 years. No more than 2 uses total.
  • Illegal use of 3 or more different controlled substances.
  • Other drug use outside these standards will be considered on case by case basis.
  • No illegal sale of ANY drug, including marijuana.
  • Pattern of illegal use of prescription medication.
  • Criminal Activity
  • Any adult felony conviction.
  • Any misdemeanor, or felony conviction while employed in a criminal justice capacity.
  • Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed.
  • Juvenile felony conviction will be carefully reviewed.
  • Been convicted of any crime under a domestic violence statute.
  • Unlawful sexual misconduct.
  • Employment
  • 2 or more terminations, or leaving employer in lieu of termination
  • Withdrawn from consideration for any (law enforcement/fire/corrections/dispatch) employment because of the following reasons: criminal conviction or drug usage.
  • Been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces.
  • Lied during any stage of the hiring process.
  • Falsified his or her application, personal history questionnaire, or any other forms during hiring process.
  • Previous revocation or denial of (CJTC/POST) certified status, or suspension of current (CJTC/POST) certified status.
  • Financial
  • Failure to pay income tax or child support.
  • Current credit accounts, or unresolved accounts in collection will be carefully reviewed.

    The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.
